Hello, I am Charis. While I have received helpful critiques at competitions and took
art classes as a child, I am a primarily self-taught painter. The highest honour during my artcareer was winning a provincial ACACA competition for the realist piece Oceans, which celebrates the peace of blue skies and broad waters. My work is highly varied in style; I enjoy creating realist, surrealist, expressionist and abstract art.
Art has been a method to express the experiences of my life and the human
experience. Painting has helped me process traumatic and healthy life events. As a spiritual follower of Jesus, I often paint channelled pieces which communicate divinely inspired messages for us earth beings. For example, one of my most cherished surrealist works, Invisible Conversations, is about our ability to communicate with or discover physically unspoken and unheard information. My work is often highly philosophical. I utilize iconography to relay these messages or deliver stories.
Many pieces are simpler and celebrate natural, mental, emotional or other-worldly
happenings. For instance, Gaurd depicts an entity that helped me find direction in a
non-physical realm; in truth, the setting and subject are just as existent as you and I are. The story involves spiritual and scientific knowledge of portals. In a red, painful tunnel, the familiar being Ikbuiya led me back to the light, which I reference using the yellow tones around them. His skin is plasma; he is blue and violet fire. Another celebration, the highly praised Sway, depicts the vibrancy of my favourite forest canopy through high-chroma colour schemes and lessoned visual density than one might find in a forest. Admirers have reported feeling transported, shocked, intrigued and blessed by my artistic expression. Overall, my paintings are enlightening and encouraging, whether the story behind a piece is low vibrational or high vibrational
