ARTIST STATEMENT
The artistic research of Elisa Pezzino is born from a solid academic training focused on traditional and figurative representation, a language through which the artist investigates deep social and psychological issues. The body representation - privileged expressive vehicle - reflects the complexity of the human being by questioning the concept of beauty and natural goodness even emphasizing their fragility and precariousness. From these reflections, the vision of a possible return to an original state comes as a call for a condition of balance between man and Nature.
Through the study of American Land-Art and the European movement of Art in Nature, the artist develops her own poetic towards a plastic and relational dimension that involves the environment as a protagonist; it is defined by sculptural groups of endangered animals which interact with their environment. Her work is an instrument of awareness and dialogue between the human being and the natural Universe, focusing on: the enhancement of the environment, the protection of animals and the urgency of a new ecological sensitivity. So, Art becomes not only an aesthetic gesture, but an ethical and necessary act, able to redefine the relationship between man and the world.
Permanent works for public spaces include: “Harlequins by bike” in Montelupo Fiorentino, a project of Eugenio Taccini and “Message from the sea” (2025, Chiessi, Elba Island, Italy).
Currently, she’s working on a new environmental project that is being carried out in Sicily, at the town hall of Sant’Agata di Militello, “Through sea turtles”.
