Lou Silva

Lou Silva main interest is portrait drawing and painting through which she express our various emotions. She is inspired by what is not obvious, the limit between the figurative and the abstract, that is the reason why she is not looking for a realistic representation of the portrait, but rather an expressionist one, through continuous line drawings, which combines with spots of watercolor paint,to create a image that communicates an emotion. She studied a Diploma of Art with a Major in Portraiture and a Diploma of Art with a Major in Human Figure, both at the Faculty of Art of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), in 2004 and 2009. She also took a Portrait Painting course at the Chelsea and Camberwell College of Art and Design, in 2005, among others. Furthermore, she is a lawyer(PUC). She has participated in collective art exhibitions in Chile and abroad, and in some Art Fairs in Chile.

Lou Silva started painting figurative portraits with oil painting. Later, she begun representing facial expressions and emotions as masks in engraving; and since 2009, she has been seeking to represent portrait and emotions through the line, which is the most basic form of visual communication. Specifically a continuous line, which is free and dynamic, which flows, but which not because of that stop having a direction. A line which is apparently very simple but complex. A line that mixes with paints stains of watercolour, creating a face. In general, she paints people, but she paints animals portraits too. Her objective is to make us see our emotions in a different way, and to give the relevance to each one of our wide variety of emotions, not just the labeled as positive ones.
